Noun
genitive case
- grammar: noun case used to express some relationship such as possession or origin. It corresponds roughly to the English preposition "of." Though similar to the possessive case, it is not the same (the possessive case shows possession, while the genitive is much broader: Johns milk is possessive as well as genitive; glass of milk is only genitive, since the milk does not possess the glass). Some languages that make use of the genitive case include Croatian, Dyirbal, Finnish, German, Greek, Latin, Polish, Quechua, Russian, and Sanskrit.
